After long and serious consideration, we have decided to discontinue our maple syrup operation, a difficult emotional decision since we have been ushering in spring with the maple trees since 1980, when maple was our only spring activity and fuel was much less expensive. Over the years our farm has become more diverse, with many greenhouses starting up in mid-March and April. Now we have decided to use the wood we would have used in the evaporator to help heat a greenhouse and to rein in our diesel expense by not circling the neighborhood collecting unpredictable amounts of sap.

Maple Sunday will be on March 22, 2009. We trust that you will join us in celebrating spring, but now at another Maine sugarhouse.
